SkyLabs Secures EIC Pre-Accelerator Support for PicoSkyFT-MCU Development

SkyLabs has been selected as one of 70 companies for the European Innovation Council (EIC) Pre-Accelerator programme, standing out in a highly competitive call with a large number of applicants from across Europe, where the proposal achieved full points in the evaluation process.

The funding is awarded for the PicoSkyFT-MCU project, a next-generation fault-tolerant microcontroller designed for high-reliability space applications. The project builds on the proven PicoSkyFT soft core processor, widely used on all SkyLabs subsystems from onboard data handling to the supervisor functionality.

PicoSkyFT-MCU, will be a fully European, ITAR-free, radiation-tolerant microcontroller designed specifically for decentralised small-satellite subsystems such as smart sensors, actuators, and power or housekeeping units. The solution enables flexible, modular spacecraft architectures with simplified integration of distributed electronics.

PicoSkyFT-MCU will be implemented using European 22nm FD-SOI technology, combined with fault-tolerant architecture optimised for low-power operation and resilience in harsh space environments. The project will deliver a TRL 6 prototype with embedded peripherals, mixed-signal capabilities, and validated performance under relevant radiation and thermal conditions.

Through the programme, SkyLabs will receive funding, expert coaching, and access to investors, supporting the further development and commercialization of PicoSkyFT-MCU.
